Media CW The research and Intention!!!

Me and Hibaq are working in a team and were doing brief 3, which is to create an artist that would have a large youth audience. Were doing print and broadcast. Today, 1/02/2012, we have nearly finished our researched. We have done collages each on mainly single female artists, we just need to wrap it up with an evaluation. Also I've done a power point presentation on the website Prezi for the artist Birdy. Hibaq has done a mini essay with pictures on Jessie J. We both need to do Adele, probably on Prezi again. We also want to make a animato video presenting the existing artists who already have the type of genre we want for our artist. I've researched on interviews on 6 female artists, and Hibaq has done research on magazine articles on female artists. We've also done a survey on 20 people and now we just have to add up the results and write up a short evaluation on it. We also need to do research on the music press like Vibe magazine, example of album ads in that, also flyers on album covers and tour dates.
It is a lot of work but its what we got to do if we want the best possible grade we could achieve.

'My mums new boyfriend' trailer: questions 3 and 4

 3) Hollywood values this trailer has to offer is definently the professional camera used to get such a clear, sharp 'moving image'.The editing also, done after, looks extremely typical with its classic fast, slide to the side cuts and fade to black. This type of trailer, used many times before, has a same order to it as well. Also the voice over is probably universally known for his thousand's other trailers he's done. The deep and strong American accents portrayed other genres before like horror, drama and now for a dominantly comedy genre, he has a joyful sound to his voice.

4) The car chases shown would attract people who love action movies, but the way it was shown, as a game to the 'mother' shows the humorous side balancing it out and making it all the more lighter. The target audience would probably be women of ages 22 and late 30's maybe pushing 40's. This is because the mature men displayed in the movie would be an attraction to mature women. Also, even tough adult jokes weren't shown and only a very small and innocent 'sexy' scene, the women could relate to the older 'mother' who obviously just wants to feel young again, have fun and date dangerously.

Breaking Dawn!

Watching Breaking Dawn on Friday the 18th was absolutely amazing. The film wasn't perfect, but nothing ever is. The use of fast flashing images and clips merging together to create one fantastic scene really displayed the tension, excitement and just rush of energy the characters were meant to be feeling. The wedding scene was amazing and beautiful, Bella's dress was also very beautiful. There were some scenes, however that were a bit too graphic like the honeymoon scene and the birth scene, which shouldn't be in my opinion a 12A. The movie, also may have captured the crazy action aspect of the book, but the intense emotions each character portrayed in the book was not shown as much in the movie which was a let down. The directors could have shown a scene with the characters where its intense and emotional and the character could have had a voice over they pre-recorded saying those crucial lines in the book which would  have been a nice touch. But I can't criticise too much because I did really enjoy the movie and I can't wait for the next one which I know would be even better.

'My mums new boyfriend' trailer: question 1 and 2

1) At the start of the trailer the lighting is very bright as the protagonist is shown leaving home to go to college. As the narrative develops more and the 'problem' presents itself the lighting tends to be more dark as if its all happens during the night, lighting usually reflects the atmosphere and genre and so these different lightings could show the action adventure and comedy aspect.  Also things that usually happen at night are stereotypically suspicious and could represent secrecy and this could help the adventure genre. Dodgy doings that happened during late hours and the son saying at the beginning of the text that he is a 'FBI' suggest to the audience that this could be a cop and crime movie. Also the sound of sirens and cars zooming down the street could illustrate the many car chases that may happen during the movie, and car chases are a convention of action adventure films so this could be just that. The dopey music that starts off the trailer portrays to the audience that this is also a comedy, while also showing the very unconventional mother which could demonstrate a link between the two. It could imply that 'Henry's mother' would be the comedy aspect of the movie and her falling over could foreshadow that she would have more trip ups later on in the film.

2) Family is not represented to be a neutral family. At the start of the text the commentator introduces the very unconventional mother. Her homeless look and carelessness could shows she could be a problem later on in the film. The trailer probably wants to present this family as unique, funny and interesting to interest viewers and show that this is not a stereotypical idea. The son states at the start that he is a 'FBI' and his father died in jail so he doubts his father would be proud of him, this was done in a very humorous way to maybe imply that this is a comedy and that the family's problems are going to be used as jokes.

Brick Lane

How is family portrayed in the movie BrickLane?

Family is represented in different stages throughout the film, at first we get to see the main family with the protagonist and it looks like a very stereotypical neutral family with the mother at home cooking, the father off to a stable job and the two girls going to school. The deeper problems are not shown at first but as we get to be with the family more and more the truth of a broken family comes out there. The father comes back at the start because he gets fired which shows instability and we soon understand his incredible desperation to belong somewhere here in London, as to be in a job. The audience who could also be foreign could relate to this which is a uses and gratification theory. The mother, on the other hand, doesn’t wants to even try at first, just longs to be home and sulks all day while the two little girls, mainly Chana whose the oldest, is fixated on westernised problems and her westernised life. The way the characters are being played also, with the Dad acting extremely lazy, he acts firmly like he is the head of the house and everyone does what he expects and says. Also at the start, they present him to look like he is slightly aggressive, while the oldest daughter, Chana, acts like a typical London, teenage girl who is not bothered and slightly rude. The youngest sister is not shown much but she’s always running around smiling, this connotes happiness the only happiness that this family seems to have.

The family also have this language barrier as the parents speak Bengali and the children speak English. This could show that the children are not willing to fully accept their culture as they have a firm belief that their culture is here in England. This creates problems as when the father is ready to leave and take his family back straight to Bangladesh Chana causes more arguments and screams in his face that her, “home is here and Bangladesh is DEAD!” It creates a serious strain on the whole family.

At the start of the film, the movie shows how family is there, how everyone in the village is smiling and laughing, the children are playful and respective. Straight after it show the family in London, the contrast is large and it almost seems that the film director us trying to convey that family begins and belongs at the root

1) Alvin and the Chipmunk: Chipwrecked

2) The publicist for the movie posted the trailer of the movie on YouTube where people could like/ dislike, comment and discuss their views on the trailer and the upcoming movie. This would cause people to create interest excitement with themselves, and to speculate on the trailer and what the narrative is. There also is a official website for the movie called www.munkyourself.com, which is where people could get more information on the movie and play games. The bright yellow and blue conveys happiness and holidays. It opens to loud happy music which the chipmunks are singing and that's what their known for now, to remix well known songs into their squeaky voices. This also happens in the trailer as we get a little preview of them singing and performing 'Bad romance' at the end of the trailer. 'The guardian' also wrote an article on the movie called 'Alvin and the Chipmunk Chipwrecked are cruising towards a bruising,' this article is more for bashing then praising as the author states that "Alvin and the chipmunks movie is setting sail for high jinks on the high seas. Anyone got a lifeboat?" However this bad publicity could create more publicity in a indirect way. The fans of the original Alvin and the chipmunk would be dedicated to the franchise and could even be annoyed at the aritcle for writing that. Or people could even be interested to see how even 'the guardian' could write such an aritcle for a childrens movie which could cause them to go and watch the film. The movie is also written about on various other small websites with reviews and comments from the public.

Othello...

Other than the pathetic attempts of enacting scenes of Othello in English class, the Othello play I watched last night at Greenwich Theatre was the only proper production of Othello I have ever seen, which was terrible, probably the worst production of Othello there is. There were some good parts like how I cannot deny how passionate the actors and actress were. The emotions they portrayed were so real even if a little scary or over the top. This theatre decided to change up the play also by making Othello white and everyone black and set the story in the Caribbean instead of Cyprus. Now lets go into the bad parts that made Jhonelle keep repeating, " I'm so glad I didn't pay for this!" First of all when I said at the top that I went to a production... yeah, not a good choice of wording, amateur portrayal of Othello to do in a few peoples spare time would define it much better. So yeah we were a few minutes late because we had to take public transport all the way to the other side of London, on the outskirts pratically, and the ushers were quite rude about it. We hastily took our seats in a crowded theatre to look infront at the stage at what looks like a few scraps of rubbish collected to try and look like a boat? Let me get this straight, in Othello the boat scene was like for a page, literally, in their version their on the boat the whole time. I was seriously confused and even more confused to why Jhonelle next to me tried to find where they were at in our text book in the pitch black with her glasses on. She found the page which was absolutely useless because we had to watch the play, not read from the book, they weren't even following the storyline right because the set was such a disaster and there was only a cast of three. Three characters were presented in this, the director axed praticalley everyone, even Cassio who by the way is the person being set up for have an affair with Othello's wife!!!! So yeah a real dissapointment and to leave the theatre to find out we have to do an essay on the play which would be our first offcial course work piece and that we had to take notes which I wasn't informed with. Oh and then of course we had to make a trek all the way back which consisted of taking the DLR then 2 under grounds than a bus home at 10:00 at night, yeah.
