Film Overview

Section A

1) Having an idea is usually where people start to create a movie. They would then adapt this idea if they believe its cinema gold. Creating an outline and promote interest and then if a studio, independent or a large institution, then shows interest they would buy rights to make the film. From there, they start hiring script writers, screen writers, producer, director, cast and etc. Once the film is completed, they would then send it back to the studio. They make a licencing agreement with a distribution company, who determines how many copies to make. They would present the film to buyers representing the theatres like head of Vue cinema and if they think the movie is good they would buy it. The movie is sent to the theatre a few days before the openeing where they would show it for a specific number of weeks. Once the lease is done they would send it back, hopefully making a profit on number of ticket sold making more money than renting film.

2) A film distribution is a specific process through which a movie is made available to watch for an audience. A film distributer could be a company or an individual presenting films to the public either at home or in the theatre.

3) The Golden age is how they like to describe the Hollywood studio system during the 1930's to 40's. There were five major studio also known as the Big Five, with 20th century fox firmly in second place. These five large studios were creditied for finding and developing these legendary stars of the Golden age. It wasn't all that Golden however as these legendary stars didn't get that title fairly easy. The star system was a cruel way to treat actors and actresses in those days. Seeing them only for their talents or good looks. They were told what to do, they had no private life, or social events and everything were instructured by their boss. They had to do role they may not like or agree with, and if they didnt't get much popularity they got sacked. But if they did prove to show more people were becoming interested they were kept on another contract and even promoted to more money. They were treated like things or pets. If you were an actor or actress in those days you had to accept that you were in no control over your life or career and that you were at the mercy of the studio. This Hollywood studio system ended however, soon after the Golden era. The film studio were forced into shutting down their 'system'.

4) Film  has changed today in the way actual film ideas has become more interestinf, daring and mature - actors and actresses are given so much more freedom and respect. Also making and editing a film is so easy due to the fact of increased technology. Its so advanced, movies nowadays look great. Also now film distributer, we are able to watch films any where, on our laptops, ipad, TV due to movies being able to broadcast on different channels and also the internet.

5) Horizontal intergration is the merger of companies at the same stage of production in the same or different industry.
